“WHAT LURKS IN YOUNGVILLE”, 2021
Youngville had a reputation for being a boring town. Cookie cutter houses on cookie cutter streets, a nice public pool, and women who sped walked and listened to chart top hits on their Walk-Man’s. Youngville hadn’t had a real news-worthy headline for the last twenty years or so, and the police department answered calls limited to cats in trees, keys in cars, fender benders, and fights at bars. Nothing really ever happened in Youngville.

Marc and June could attest to this. The most exciting thing that they could recall, was that one time in eighth grade, when everyone was sent home early after a small, egg-poaching related fire was started by a seventh grader in third period FCS. Marc and June were longing, desperate even, for something eventful. Something exciting. Something noteworthy. June, because she wanted to make movies, and needed subject matter to film on her Kodak; Marc more so in hopes of punching, beating, bruising, or battering something. The high school threatened expulsion if he got into one more fight, so he needed another outlet.

It was a Saturday, that Marc and June decided to explore the woods on the west side of town. The city had closed off nearly every entrance to the West Woods some 20 years ago, citing a sinkhole. In reality, it was to cover up the mysterious disappearance case of a young couple the investigative team was yet to crack. June didn’t think she’d solve a case of any kind, she just wanted to see something mysterious, too.

Marc and June saw their “something mysterious” as they made their way in. As they approached, they were put in front some sort of glowing red light, coming from the middle of the darkness. Marc wanted to leave, and call it a night, but June knew they were just getting started. Returning with a weapon, the two went back to the red light, only to find something in its place. Something sinister. Something evil. Something terrifying.

June’s camera was destroyed, Marc’s memory blocked it out, and now no one will ever believe what lurks in Youngville.
